Arkoon confirms its position as the European alternative for information system security
Arkoon was first listed, by direct quotation, on Euronext Paris’ Alternext market on July 12. Prior to this market listing, capital was increased to 5.2 million euros, thanks to a network of institutional and qualified investors, both French and foreign, who have now joined Arkoon’s previous shareholders.
The company thus became the first French company in this sector to be quoted on the stock exchange, and one of only a handful in Europe.
Arkoon will use the funds raised partly to continue its product and service development to sustain and enhance the value of the investments already made by our clients in their infrastructure, and partly to support external and internal growth in France and abroad.
At the same time, development of our product portfolio will enable our partners in the distribution network to propose competitive, high added value solutions and services.
First international phase: the opening of Arkoon’s agency in Italy
With a number of client references already on its books, including Monza town council, Boero (world leader in marine paint) and the Genoa aquarium, as well as dealer partners throughout the Italian peninsula, Arkoon opened a technical sales office in Milan September 2007. The Italian market for average-sized companies, particularly dynamic, is a perfect match for Arkoon’s model of distribution. Supported by irreversible trends (mobility, convergence), this growing market is receptive to Arkoon’s position as the European alternative for computer security.
A new look for our website: www.arkoon.net
In July, Arkoon’s web site was redesigned and navigation was made simpler. Clients, dealers and partners now have easier, faster access to our news, as well as relevant information about current security problems and threats.
At the beginning of October, the private space reserved for Arkoon dealers will also be updated to improve interactivity between Arkoon and its partners. With these new tools, the Web will become an essential lever in the optimisation of relations between Arkoon and our market, in France of course, but also for our international development.

Arkoon joins the Microsoft Secure IT Alliance
The Microsoft Secure IT Alliance comprises a number of industrial partners who work together to devise security solutions on Microsoft platforms. The aim is to inform clients of new security solutions and improve technological and industrial collaboration to encourage the design of innovative products that are needed by the market.
Arkoon’s active collaboration in this workgroup, counting some 70 members, will be of benefit to our client companies, thanks to improved interoperability of Arkoon and Microsoft solutions and the increased security level provided by Arkoon solutions in Microsoft environments. For example, Security BOX® is now fully compatible with Microsoft’s DFS (Distributed File System).
Bull integrates Arkoon’s offer in its NOC
Bull strengthens its partnership with Arkoon: in order to propose a comprehensive quality service offer with its NOC (Network Operating Center), Bull is integrating our offer in its catalogue of maintained products, aiming to provide a round-the-clock support and maintenance service (24/7) for the whole Arkoon FAST360® range. All Bull sites in mainland France and abroad, as well as their clients, will have access to this service from October 2007. For more information, contact Philippe Pubellier (philippe.pubellier@bull.net) or Isabelle Bukowski (ibukowski@arkoon.net).

Are there any questions you would like to ask? Any potential projects you would like to discuss with us? Come and see us during our professional events in the last quarter of the year.
IDC Next Generation Telecoms conference – September 27, 2007, Westin Hotel, Paris
A round table has been organised on the theme of "Security via infrastructures" and Arkoon will be presenting its solutions to the security problem in the context of mobility and convergence. This issue will be discussed on the basis of actual examples of architectures and solutions for protecting information, communications and infrastructure:
- Mobile terminal, PDA and smartphone security: how to extend the notion of a digital safe to the specific mobile context?
- How to include information security in a convergence architecture?
- Why mobility and convergence require new security principles?
IP Convergence (VoIP convention) – October 3-5, 2007, Porte de Versailles, Paris – Arkoon stand C42
VoIP is a vulnerable IP application. It inherits vulnerability from other applications (protocols, clients, servers, OS, etc.) and its own weaknesses: working in real time, it is more sensitive to denial of service. Changes related to convergence therefore have a direct impact on the security procedures to be implemented.
Find Arkoon and ITWay, our distributor, on stand C42 to guide your teams and clients towards a security approach suitable for IP telephony. The very latest version of FAST360® (launched in September), the market’s first UTM Voice/Data appliance will be available for demonstration.
Come and explore the “Security of strategies adapted to new risks” during the round table at which Arkoon will be participating: Thursday October 4, 11.10-11.50 am.
The Security and Information Systems Congress – October 10-12, 2007, Forum Grimaldi, Monaco
On their quest for increased information confidentiality, major administrative bodies and companies will be coming to Arkoon’s stand to discuss the merits of encryption and the protection of intellectual property, in particular in relation to the Security BOX® solution range.
Alongside our partner Sophos, Arkoon’s stand will be focussing on information confidentiality, the implementation of architecture to protect sensitive data. Particular attention will be paid to Security BOX® Mobile, the software for terminal encryption under Windows Mobile (communicating SmartPhones and PDAs).
Arkoon will also be participating at the conference on VoIP and convergence projection.
Infosecurity– November 21-22, 2007, CNIT, Paris La Défense
Visit Arkoon at the stands of its distributor partners, Afina and ITWay, to discover the new version v4.2 of FAST360® and the full range of Arkoon solutions.
Arkoon will also be participating at the "Control and security of voice/data mobile terminals" conference on Thursday, November 22 at 10.15 am – Hall 3. The conference will be discussing the following issues:
1. Creating a secure WiFi infrastructure
2. Controlling voice/data convergence
3. Making a mobile perimeter secure
4. Transforming nomad terminals into mobile safes
ATENA forum – December 6, 2007, 2-5.30 pm, Télécom Lille 1, Villeneuve d’Ascq, France
Arkoon, a loyal sponsor of the event for several years, will be participating at this year’s forum on a theme that is at the centre of the most advanced work in the security field and yet relatively unknown: the certification of technologies and people, the conformity and certification of organisations.
As France’s first security appliance manufacturer to be Common Criteria certified (in 2004), Arkoon will be sharing its expert vision of the implications of certification in technologies such as data encryption and network security.

Innovation SSL360®
Launched in June, version 3.0 of the SSL360 appliances brings two major improvements:
- Total compatibility with web applications. The new SWA (Secure Web Agent) component, developed and integrated by Arkoon, now ensures compatibility with most web applications (Webmail, OWA or Lotus iNotes, Front End, Intranet, etc.) in this new version.
- A review of Virtual Passage, the point-to-point connection component with the local network. While version 2.0 only worked with Internet Explorer, version 3.0 also enables connection with other browsers, such as Mozilla, which are now widely used in many companies.
This new version aims to help companies with their mobile environments, with increasing serenity and simplicity. “Version 3.0 SSL360 offers broad access compatibility with all the resources available on the local network, with no restrictions”, claims Ralph Mur, SSL360 product marketing manager.
Innovation Security BOX® Mobile
Security BOX® Mobile is a security solution for PDAs and Smartphones (compatible with Windows Mobile® 5.0). It is perfectly suited to the security needs of mobile terminals, offering many functions, such as user authentication, local file and personal data encryption, encryption of messages and attachments from e-mail applications and SSL encryption of distant connections between the terminal and the company’s information system.
After the “Smart” range for small and medium-sized businesses at the end of 2006 and version 6.5 “Enterprise” in January, Security BOX® Mobile is the third major addition to Arkoon’s Security BOX® product line in less than two years.
Innovation FAST360® 4.2
On September 22, version 4.2 of FAST360® appliances officially became available. Arkoon’s clients and partners have been looking forward to this new version, which provides many new functions. Some of the main innovations are:
1- Integration of the Antispam Commtouch engine, which provides the best market rate in terms of detection and false positives.
2- Review of the Manager configuration tool, with the addition of a multitude of improvements to ergonomics and processing capacity. This new manager enables reductions of between 25 and 50% in the processing time of a multiple appliance configuration. This new manager, coupled with an AMC server (Arkoon Management Center), enables administration of several hundred FAST360 appliances.
3- A new service quality management module (QoS), compatible with the DiffServ protocol.
