20 April 2009 - Q1 2009 Internet Threats Trend Report by commtouch
Throughout the quarter, spammers and malware distributors continued to exploit legitimate sites to bypass traditional content filtering technologies. Recent tactics include the targeting of ISPs and the borrowing of images from legitimate, well-known hosts to use in e-mail
messages.
Another growing trend is the use of social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) for phishing schemes. By pulling on the heartstrings of networks of friends, unknowing users have fallen victim to money-making and passwordstealing schemes.

23 October 2008 - Arkoon announces the official release of Security BOX FullCrypt computer security package.
Arkoon adds to its range of computer security products with the Security BOX FullCrypt boot encryption solution.
Security BOX FullCrypt : making your computer as safe as Fort Knox.
Security BOX FullCrypt is the latest addition to the Security BOX range. This powerful application was designed from scratch to guarantee the security of data stored on a hard disk. This is a global solution, protecting user data as well as operating system data. Authentication takes place before the operating system starts and is done using either a password or a cryptographic medium (USB token, smartcard or biometric medium). Moreover, Security BOX FullCrypt has a centralized administration tool.
This boot encryption (also referred to as surface encryption) is entirely visible to the user, and can be run on Windows Vista, XP and 2000.
As explained by Jérôme Perreard, Arkoon Security BOX Product Manager: “Increased mobility has increased the risk of theft, and losing confidential data is a major concern for businesses. Therefore, it was essential that we provide our customers with a solution to guarantee the security and confidentiality of mobile devices. The addition of FullCrypt to the Security BOX range means that we are now in a position to provide a new level of security, and clearly shows Arkoon's capacity to devise solutions in keeping with our customer’s requirements".

Blended Threats Continue to Assail Networks and Inboxes
Internet users got little reprieve during the third quarter of 2008 as email and web continued to be the avenues of choice for Internet threats. Blended-threat emails, particularly hyperlinks to malicious material hosted on the Internet, have become a leading tactic. Blended-threats have become increasingly popular over the past year, due to their relative success at evading many security solutions. Blended threats that contain an element of “hijacking” legitimate content, sites or senders to provide an air of legitimacy was a significant trend this quarter.
Zombie or botnet-generated threats remained high, however reputation-based solutions are continuously improving at blocking them. As a result, spammers enhanced their tricks for “hijacking” positive reputations from senders and sites, in an attempt to bypass even reputation-based filtering systems.
Q3 2008 Highlights
- Legitimate sites and senders were used by spammers to cloak their illicit activity, including sites like Live.com
- Over half of zombies/bots change their IP address daily
- Germany has the fastest rate of zombie IP address turnover, at approximately 79% per day; China is a close second at 78% per day
- Malware masqueraded as legitimate newsletters such as CNN Daily Top 10 or IE7 Browser updates
- New spam tactics during the quarter included: links to Flash (.swf) files, ASCII art spam, and hidden Bayesian poisoning text combined with HTML tricks

8 October 2008 - Arkoon on the European Security and Information System Congress
European Security and Information System Congress 15 to 18 October 2008 - Grimaldi Forum, MonacoTrust - A Critical Business Requirement
The European Security and Information System Congress has become an essential crossroads for all market professionals. For Arkoon, this 8th edition represents a double opportunity: firstly, display the most recent additions to its security products lines, namely the Security BOX (data protection) and the FAST 360 (infrastructure protection); and secondly, promote the work done up to now by the “Trust networks”, started before Summer 2008.
To mark the occasion, Arkoon is proud to present the Security BOX FullCrypt, a boot-up encryption solution.
For 4 days, key targets such as IT managers, information system managers, data processing directors, and information security officers from major companies and French public administrations will have an opportunity to discover the rich benefits to be gleaned from Arkoon’s new solutions. The Congress marks an excellent opportunity to launch the Security BOX FullCrypt, an encryption software activated on hard disk startup. This new product expands the security BOX range by guaranteeing the confidentiality of all information stored on a hard disk; all user and system files are protected in a manner that is entirely invisible to the user. As might be expected, this solution uses a centralized administration tool.
Arkoon will also focus on the deployment of architecture to protect sensitive data, in particular via its Security BOX encryption solutions (version 7.0 available since September 2008).
Also of keen interest is the range of Arkoon security appliances now featuring new Network Processor Appliances (NPAs) fitted with multi-core processors specially designed to deliver a high level of performance when used in a network. These NPAs draw on a new hardware/software architecture, with a host of new and exciting features from version 5.0.
A topical workshop, facilitated by Arkoon (Friday 17 October from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Auric 3 room) will explore the current main market tendencies: Mobility, SaaS, and virtual datacenters.
