“Arkoon's UTM FAST360® appliance and the antivirus on the servers meant that we no longer needed antivirus software on most client workstations.”
José MARSON, Information Systems Manager
Spanghero is specialised in the production and marketing of ready-to-eat meals and prepared food made from fresh meat. The company was founded in Castelnaudary in 1970 by the Spanghero brothers and now employs some 500 people.
Customer needs
In 2001, information system security at Spanghero involved little more than installing antivirus software on client workstations. The company suffered a series of attacks, mainly viral.
At the same time, the company decided to centralise its user data on a file server, making information system security a major concern. A solution had to be found to offer high level protection against external threats and a user-friendly, intuitive graphic administration interface to simplify the tasks of the information systems department.
The response
In 2002, Spanghero opted for an Arkoon UTM appliance equipped with two ports for firewall, URL filtering, and SMTP and HTTP flow antivirus functions. In 2004, the company upgraded to a UTM FAST360® appliance from the A200 series with more ports to allow for the installation of a DMZ. This new product enables implementation of IPsec VPN links which means that Spanghero can connect a remote site and nomad users to the main site with low interconnection costs and increased security, without causing traffic to slow down.
The benefits
UTM FAST360® appliances quickly proved highly satisfactory in terms of stability.
Arkoon solutions fulfilled the needs of Spanghero, offering a high level of security and centralised administration, leaving the Information Systems department free to supervise their network security policy easily and with maximum efficiency at no extra cost, which made all the difference when compared with the other solutions envisaged.
Finally, the upgradability of UTM FAST360® appliances is another considerable advantage for solution migrations throughout the company’s life.
