Arkoon SSL VPN appliances allow enterprises to easily
implement secure clientless remote access for remote offices, partners,
or road warriors needing access to corporate applications.
The SSL VPN functionalities become an essential component
of current network & security architectures. They offer a secured
and multi-purpose access in Web mode to the network resources. SSL
VPN is a technology perfectly adapted to the development of mobility
by contributing to simplify the implementation of virtual private networks.
Arkoon Network Security conceives its SSL VPN products
willing to supply the security level, the performance, the simplicity
of use required by this type of solutions.
The SSL VPN server secures the applicative flows between
the roadwarrior workstations and an SSL gateway. It contributes to simplify
the implementation of virtual private networks, which makes this technology
perfectly adapted to the development of mobility.
Unlike the IPSEC technologies traditionally used by roadwarriors, SSL
VPN allows mobile users to gain access to their E-mails, to their
enterprise’s intranet, or to applications located in its internal
network, through a simple Web browser, without any client hardware or
software configuration.
Moreover SSL VPN enables the enterprise to create a
secured extranet giving access to its staff members and partners, located
outside of the enterprise, to some applications through a simple Web browser.
The use of the SSL protocol permits VPN connections to
go through most firewalls, thus offering the flexibility of use adapted
to mobility (connection from a customer’s or a partner’s LAN
through the firewalls).
The SSL VPN server mainly operates on the applicative
level unlike the IPSec VPN which operates on the network level. It requires
the implementation of an http server which permits to constitute the gateway
of access. For security reasons the implementation of the SSL
VPN service must not be done on the firewall itself. Indeed,
the presence of applicative services which are open to the outside of
the LAN network, on a network security equipment such as a firewall would
be likely to corrupt the equipment itself. That’s the reason why
the SSL VPN products offered by Arkoon are specialised
appliances destined to be implemented in the DMZ of the firewall to take
advantage of the protection functions offered by it: firewalling, intrusion
prevention and detection.
